Toothpaste causes brain damage!IF you’re pregnant, check your toothpaste for triclosan. Research shows the chemical could stop blood flow to the uterus and starve a baby’s brain of oxygen. Instead of battling bacteria -- for which it was intended -- the element could turn an unborn infant into a horrifying zombie, a living corpse with permanent brain damage. Professor Margaret James of the University of Florida said experts know the use of toothpaste with triclosan poses dangers to an unborn child.

However, she stressed that medical specialists are not aware about the gravity of the problem. Triclosan, an anti-bacterial developed 50 years earlier, is also used in deodorants, handwashing liquids, chopping boards and even toys. The risk on fetuses was based on studies conducted on pregnant sheep.

Test showed the chemical affects an enzyme that permits estrogen to circulate in the womb. Estrogen helps keep open the main artery carrying blood with oxygen to the unborn child. Lack of oxygen results in narrowing of the arteries. Thus, supply of blood to the fetus is cut off, causing brain damage.

Major drug manufactturer GlaxoSmithKline has stopped using triclosan in two of its toothpaste brands and a mouthwash. ChemTTrust director Elizabeth Salter-Green has asked infanticipating women to avoid the chemical.

Meanwhile, the European Union Cosmetics Directive has assured United Kingdom residents that triclosn is safe when used in small doses. The maximum amount allowed in products is 0.3 percent. UK’s Cosmetics, Toiletry and Perfumery Association spokesman, however, said that the triclosan experiment on sheep does not prove that it would have the same effect on humans.
